Timeskip Marianne: Project

Why I chose this costume:

I knew right away after playing the game how much I loved Marianne! I relate to her a lot and I really was excited to cosplay her.

I absolutely love her timeskip design, so I wanted to make that one first. I really wanted the fabric choices to compliment each other but were also workable, so I spent a while finding an appropriate fabric for the dress.

How I made this costume:

I used a pattern from Indigo Patterns for the dress. I use her patterns a lot so I felt good about it! This was my first time working with heavy duty fabrics like suede so there was a definite learning curve there.

I had an unbelievably hard time with the underdress fabric, as well. It was incredibly shifty, not even the cutting counter could cut it straight. It was really hard to cut out the patterns as every time I moved the whole thing moved and didn't fit anymore. I was able to brute force through it and finish the pieces, but the fabric frays exponentially, and I didn't have a serger at the time so it really needs to be replaced.

The over dress is fully lined and the panels are flat lined. The gold edges are done with pleather wrapped foam and topstitched down. Topstitching these pieces was really difficult due to all the layers (foam, pleather, suede, lining).

The gold trims were taken from the Joann cosplay line and I trimmed and modified them by hand to better fit my design and match my budget better (trims are expensive!)

3D print pieces were designed by Dangerous Ladies and printed and painted by me! I attached them all with pin backs to help with cleaning.

The wig styling was a whole project in itself. I spent over 6 hours styling the wig! I used Arda Wigs Nina in Slate Blue and followed Arda's YouTube tutorial. She has lasted me over 6 months of continuous use!

Final Thoughts:

This cosplay ended up winning me Best Novice at Dokidokon, which I am so proud! I was nervous my stitchwork was no good, but in fact that one one thing the judges really liked. I also got to match with my friends a lot lending out my Hilda. This costume is definitely one I think I am better known for, and I definitely want to bring back more renditions in the future.
